Why do some suitcases arrive before others on the luggage belt? Let's find out thanks to an insider
Traveling by plane is commonplace for many people. Flying is a very useful way to travel long distances quickly (and/or to reach remote areas). Discovering the beauties of the world is wonderful if you love travelling. When you take a plane, however, we all know that there are rules to be followed. We all do this, but have you ever thought about the details?
Take luggage for example. Dealing with our hand carry-ons is usually not a problem. If our bag weighs 15 kilos or more (for some airlines, 10kg or more), it must be checked in. So, when you are waiting for your luggage on the belt, have you ever wondered why some suitcases arrive much sooner than yours?

This is an excellent question and an "insider", user @djsugue, posted some clips to the web in which he explains the reasons and procedures of how luggage is loaded onto the conveyance belts.
There is "method in the madness" and the procedure is certainly not random. @djsugue, who works with luggage at an airport, stated that there are loading/unloading procedures and various factors influence how bags are "served up" on the luggage belt.
If you think that "first checked-in, first collected" is the principle, then you are not on the right track. That's not to say this principle never works, but there are other factors that come into play.
One of these factors are the priority that passengers who have "higher class" tickets get (like first and business class passengers) - these passengers get their luggage first (over those who flew economy).
Then, smaller suitcases are unloaded, working up incrementally in size to the largest bags.
And voilà, the "mystery" is explained. So, next time you travel, don't worry if you don't get your luggage right away. It doesn't mean that it got lost. Rather, think about what type of ticket you have and the size of your bag/s.
Did you already know about this luggage handling procedure? And is your luggage always the last to arrive?
