Get a common brown paper bag, blow it up, close it with a string and hang it wherever it is needed.

The trick is that a brown paper bag to wasps looks exactly like a hornet's nest! Consequently, the wasps will be fooled into believing that hornets have already preceded them and built a nest.

Since both wasps and hornets are territorial insects, the wasps will almost certainly stay away from the area!
