Yellowed pillows? Here's how to get them back to their previous whiteness with a single wash

If when changing your pillowcases you have noticed that your pillows have acquired an unpleasant yellowish color, know that you do not need to throw them away.

Sweat, hairspray, facial creams or other substances with time pass through pillowcases, yellowing the pillows --- which also become filled with germs, among other things.

Even if a simple wash allows you to eliminate the bacteria, it will not be as effective in whitening pillows. However, a simple and inexpensive solution to get your pillows back to their original whiteness exists, and this is what we propose here below.

First, arm yourself with these simple ingredients:

1 cup of laundry detergent
1 cup of dishwashing liquid
1 cup of bleach
1/2 cup of baking soda

Mix together to obtain the mixture you will use to whiten the pillows.

1. Fill about 1/3 your washing machine with hot water - at the maximum temperature indicated on the pillow care label.

2. Add the magic mixture to the hot water and turn on the wash cycle for a few minutes until the detergent is well dissolved and mixed.

3. Add the pillows.

4. Complete filling the washing machine with hot water and let the pillows soak for a few more minutes.

5. Switch off the washing machine and leave the pillows in the water for at least a few hours or, even better, overnight.

NOTE:  In regards to these first steps you can also do without the washing machine, and decide to immerse the pillows in the bathtub - of course, always in very hot water.

After the soaking period, do a complete wash cycle and include a second rinse. Alternatively, you can perform the complete wash cycle twice. It is also possible to add a cup of white vinegar to the rinsing cycles, in order to completely remove the residues of detergent. You will probably notice the difference already after the first wash ... but continue to get the whitest results possible!

Drying

To dry the pillows, you can use the dryer or hang them outside if there is a strong hot sun. In the first case, remember to insert tennis balls covered with clean white socks or wool drying balls into the dryer.
