Being married - or having a long-term relationship - is something that protects us from many diseases and enables us to live longer.

There are several studies that have already investigated this type of personal relationship, but now another has been published that specifies that there are definitely health benefits when it comes to a happy marriage.

When there is an unhappy marriage, on the contrary, exactly the opposite happens, that is, the people involved are more likely to develop pathological conditions.

Researchers at the universities of Nevada and Michigan monitored the health status of 373 couples during the first sixteen years of their marriage to find out when and how conflicts can arise due to money, children's education, relatives, and hobbies that can negatively affect the marital relationship.

The results of this long observation have made it clear that marital conflicts are actually detrimental to a person's health, especially more for men than for women.

This happens because being in an unhappy relationship can trigger reactions in the body such as inflammation, appetite disorders, and an increased production of stress hormones that can negatively affect the cardiovascular system and the immune system.

"Experiencing a tension-laden marriage is as harmful as drinking or smoking," said experimental psychology researcher Rosie Shrout (University of Nevada, Reno). "According to our study, conflict turns out to be particularly harmful to those people who adopt a hostile or defensive attitude during discussions, as well as those who continually discuss the same things without being able to find a common solution."

In short, if you see yourself reflected in this profile and you care about your health, it would be a good idea to start thinking seriously about how to solve this problem!
