In the autonomous community of Galicia, in the north-west of Spain, a group of retirees decided that it was a good idea to invest their money in the purchase of an entire abandoned village.

Why? Because they wanted to spend the rest of their retirement far away from the big cities and, above all, they wanted to do it together.

Although it would seem to be very expensive to buy an entire village, in reality, in the Iberian peninsula, the property was quite cheap.

And that is precisely why this enterprising group of retirees did not hesitate a minute before closing the deal.

In fact, in Spain, there are many abandoned villages for sale and this group of retirees managed to obtain one at the modest price of 153,000 USD (140,000 EUR).

The small village of Galicia has been uninhabited for over 50 years and now it has become a wonderful retreat for these resourceful senior citizens.

The next step for them will be to rehabilitate the farms and homes, so as to re-evaluate the rural areas that have been massively abandoned over the last six decades.

This "exodus" of so many families in Spain, in recent years, has become a problem for small villages that risk being abandoned forever, to the point that many of them have started offering houses or salaries to those who decide to stay and live there.

An interesting idea, which will surely provide the peace and serenity that this dauntless group of retirees was searching for and that would be nice to also replicate in other parts of the world.
