A grandmother carries her disabled granddaughter in her arms because someone stole her wheelchair
They say that the love of grandmothers for their grandchildren has no limits, but what this 72-year-old woman silently does to help raise her three grandchildren is still quite remarkable.
The grandmother highlighted in this article is Aura Teresa Márquez who lives in a small house in the neighborhood of El Refugio, in a suburb of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia.
This elderly woman must face unpaved streets every school day so that her grandchildren, two boys ages 8 and 10, do not miss their school bus. And this is just one of the daily duties of this strong and determined grandmother.

However, the determination of this grandmother is even more evident when she has to take care of her third grandchild, Laura Valentina, 12, a young girl with reduced mobility, who does not speak or walk.
Laura Valentina has been bedridden from the age of 8 months after a high fever that caused meningitis which later caused her to need to use a wheelchair as a mobility aid.
To all this, it must be also be added that the grandmother is in poor health as she has problems with her legs and her feet swell frequently.
Nevertheless, her condition is not an obstacle for her in taking care of her grandchildren, while her daughters Jenny Paula and Olga go to work every day cleaning houses to earn money to maintain their modest household.
As if all of this were not enough, one day someone stole the young girl's old wheelchair that they had at home, and with it, the little money that had been saved by her younger brother Alejandro and their cousin Johan for Christmas.
This elderly woman's pain is even more profound when she remembers that the only person who has helped them a little during all this time has been her son Carlos, but now he cannot because he is in prison.
In fact, the young man, seeing that they were all so hungry and needy and that the young disabled girl had no diapers, went to a store to steal what they needed and on his return home, the police caught and arrested him.
Although the girl's mother regrets having nothing to give her children for this Christmas, they all know how to be content with very little. As a matter of fact, they have never bought new clothes or toys and those that they have were all found in garbage dumpsters.
However, grandmother Aura believes that a Christmas miracle is still possible. She believes that there are people who can show their solidarity by helping them get out of this nightmare they are experiencing, and thereby, making their lives more peaceful at least for one day.
A story of poverty and illness, yet filled with indomitable love and courage!
