A woman gives birth to the heaviest newborn twins recorded in Scotland's history
When Alanna Merrie found out she was pregnant, she and her husband Paul knew it wasn't out of the realm of possibilities of having twins. Several members on both sides of their families have twin siblings, and so it was just a matter of time before it happened to someone else.
After a couple months, Alanna's belly began to show. It wasn't, however, the normal baby bump that most mother's expecting twins show. Alanna's was almost twice the size it was supposed to be, and it showed no signs of slowing down. By the end of her pregnancy, it was clear to both Alanna and Paul that they weren't carrying normal-sized twins. On the day Alanna gave birth, let's say she and Paul weren't so shocked to discover that their twins weighed over 8 pounds each.

8 pounds is actually pretty heavy for a twin to weigh, especially when normally they weigh about 30% less than most newborns. When weighing Troy and Kaius together, though, they weigh over 16 pounds.
Their weight not only shocked the medical staff that helped deliver the twins, but it also broke records. Troy and Kaius are now officially the heaviest newborn twins in the history of Scotland. It was a heavy burdern for Alanna to bear for at least 9 months of her life, but now she can be proud of the fact that her twins hold a national record. Not many mothers can say that about their children.
When asked about baby clothes, she mentioned that she was hesistant to buy them before the birth. She was afraid that they might be too big for newborn clothes. In fact, once they were born, they were big enough to wear 6-month-old clothes. We only wish these scottish baby giants the best in life! Good luck, Alanna and Paul!
