DYI preventive face masks: a quick and easy way to make them at home
It's no secret that the Coronavirus pandemic has put a damper on all our social lives. Although certain restrictions have been lifted, many countries are making it mandatory for their citizens to wear face masks when in public places. Clearly, wearing these masks in public settings is a good idea; it reduces everyone's risk from contracting the virus. The demand for face masks, however, has been so high that it has caused a shortage in many countries. What can you do, then, if you need to go somewhere but don't have a mask to wear?

That's why we would like to share this DIY project on how to make a face mask in the comfort of your own home. Making your own preventive mask is much easier than you think; all you need are the following materials:
- a piece of paper
- scissors and a box cutter
- a pen or marker
- colorful dinner place mats (the laminated kind)
- some paper fasteners
- colorful pantyhose
The rest, as explained in this video, is simple: take your piece of paper and draw a rounded rectangle and then cut it. Take the laminated place mat and trace the rectangle on its non-colorful side and cut it.
Then, take your pair of colorful pantyhose and cut off 4 on-the-thicker side rings. Stretch them out until they start looking like hairbands. For every mask you make, you'll need four elastic bands like these. With a pen or marker, mark two points on each side of the face mask and then poke holes through them with scissors or a box cutter. Then, take your paper fasteners and push them through the holes and fasten the elastic bands into place. As simple as that, you now have made your own preventive face mask at home. Easy, right?
