The cake we are about to share with you is so simple to make, it's hard to believe how good it is ourselves! Once you have a look at the recipe, however, you'll want to give it a try, especially considering how easy it is to make. Furthermore, given it's made of only sugar, water, and egg-whites, it contains very little fat and is packed with protein. The ingredients you'll need are: 

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 10 egg-whites
  • 75 ml of water

First, let's start with how to make the caramel, which will serve as the topping of our cake. Put 1 cup of sugar in an anti-sticking pan and add 75 ml of water to it. Cook at medium-low heat and stir continuously. After a few minutes, you should start noticing the sugar mixture turn to caramel. Once the mixture riches the right density and a brownish-like color, remove the mixture from the heat.

Now, preheat the oven to 180°c (350°f). As the oven is preheating, pour the sugar mixture into a cakepan and let sit for awhile. Next, take 10 eggs and separate the yolks from the eggwhites. For this particular recipe, you only need the eggwhites, so be sure to use the yolks for something else (perhaps you can make a big pot of carbonara for your friends or extended family!). Beat the egg-whites until they start looking like snow peaks.

With the help of a spoon or baking spatula, pour the eggwhites on top of the sugar mixture in the cakepan. Next, take a rectangular baking pan and place the cake pan in it. Fill the rectangular pan up with water until the pan is halfway full. Put it in the oven and bake for 25 minutes. Once fully baked, let it sit until completely cool. Then, turn the cakepan upside down and put it in the refrigerator for at least an hour before tasting it. 

Once you try it, you'll be surprised by just how tasty it is!
