Stranger rescues a 6-year-old girl abandoned by her mother in the middle of the street
Just when we think we've heard it all, a story like this one comes along and challenges the thought that maybe the world is actually becoming a better place. A surveillance camera in Queens, New York caught a mother abandoning her daughter in the middle of the road. Although we might hope it was only a sick joke, the mother never came back for her daughter. To make matters worse, the child is only 6 years old.

In the surveillance camera's footage, we see a white car get close and stop at a crosswalk. Moments later, we see someone make a little girl dressed in dark clothes get out of the car and then, after dumping a trashbag of clothes out the passenger window, drive off.
Once the little girl realizes that her mother was driving away, she immediately starts running after her. You can even see her raising her hand in an attempt to get her mom's attention, as if pleading with her to come back. Her attempts, however, were no use. Her mother kept driving and soon disappeared from the surveillance camera's footage.
Fortunately, the child was not alone too long. Moments later, Mishka Peart drived by, spotting the child in the middle of the road. Sensing that the child was in trouble, Mishka pulled over and asked what the little girl was doing. The child responded, "They left me here."
The woman immediately grabbed the child, and her bag of clothes, and took her to the police station. Although no child should be abandoned by their parents, who knows what else could have happened to the little girl if Mishka hadn't stopped to help her.
With the help of the surveillance footage, the police were not only able to identify who the little girl was, but also her mother and stepfather. Given abandoning a child is a serious crime, the police arrested her parents and took away their rights as the child's legal guardians.
It's a story that no one likes to here, but sheds a light on the realty of children who don't have caring parents. These kids often find themselves living in and out of forster homes, are victims of abuse, or even worse. We can only hope that this 6-year-old girl's life gets better and that she'll soon find a loving family who'll never abandon her.
