Twins born only 15 minutes apart, but have different birthdays!
It's hard to imagine twins coming into the world on two different days, yet in some cases this rare event can happen. The twins, Alfredo and Aylin, born between 31 December 2021 and 1 January 2022, are a case in point. Fatima Madrigal gave birth to a 2.7 kg baby boy near midnight on the 31st. Her 2.4kg twin baby girl, whilst born shortly after her brother, was born after midnight on the 31st and so finds herself with a different birthday to her twin sibling. Indeed, the baby girl now even has a different birth year to her twin brother!

Fatima Madrigal and Robert Trujillo, from Greenfield, California (USA), welcomed their twin babies on two different days. It doesn't happen often, quite the opposite. In the United States, there are about 120,000 twin births every year, or 3% of all births, but it hardly ever happens that they have their birthdays on two different days! For these two parents, in fact, it was an amazing start to the year: Alfredo was the first to be born, at 11:45 pm on December 31, 2021, while little Aylin followed her brother 15 minutes later, and just past midnight.
Even Fatima could not believe that she would celebrate her twins birthdays on different days: "It's crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays," she said in a press release from the medical center, "neverthless, I was surprised and happy my daughter arrived at just past midnight".
Not only were the lucky parents astonished, but so were the medical staff at the Natividad Medical hospital: "This was certainly one of the most memorable events of my career," said Dr. Ana Abril Arias proudly, a long-time medical doctor at the hospital.
