Gestures of great generosity and kindness are sometimes the least conspicuous, the simplest and the most genuine. They are those that come directly from the heart of the people and touch those less fortunate and in need of help or support. We can be sure that sometimes, a very simple gesture of kindness  and empathy towards someone else can really make a difference and brighten even the most grey, sad day. Laura Degnon and her son Jake know this fact very well.

This story all happened at the end of 2021 in the city of Rockville in the state of Maryland, USA, when Jake Degnon suddenly realized that he had lost his precious wallet. Where on earth was it? His house didn't have a front garden and to further complicate the desperate search, that morning it had snowed a lot in the city, so it was really difficult to see if anything had fallen in the street. Perhaps the wallet was lying in the street, but had been covered by the blanket of about two centimeters of snow white that covered Rockville that day.

Jake and his mother Laura were now desperate, and at the same time were resigned to the likelyhood of having lost the wallet with all the documents and money inside it forever. But a nice, end-of-year surprise was coming to knock on the door of the Degnon family!

One day at 8:00 in the morning, Laura heard the doorbell ring. She opened the door and found an unknown man asking about Jake and his wallet which he had lost in the snow. Laura was moved to tears when she realized that good Samaritan, Juan, had found the wallet belonging to her son, Jake. The kind man who rang the Degnon's doorbell explained that he got up early that morning to go to work when he found Jake's wallet laying in the parking lot of the shop where he had bought his lunch for work every day. Without thinking twice, Juan looked for a document in the wallet to figure out who was the rightful owner of the wallet and an address that he could return it to.

Laura, Jake's mom, simply didn't know how to thank the stranger who had knocked on her door that morning: "What a wonderful human being! Juan made my son's day, and mine, better than he will ever know! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! "

And you? What would you have done if you had been in Juan's shoes? Let us know in the comments!
