This is the story of Josie Barnes, a 27-year-old British mother who is making a lot of people gossip about her because of the name she wanted to give to her son - Lucifer. Yes, you read that right, Josie wanted to call her son the same name as the Prince of Darkness, or the Devil of Christian religious tradition. Of course, this is a name that for a certain cultures and societies will absolutely not bring anything good, nor has it got a positive connotation. Notwithstanding this, however, it seems that this name is back in vogue after the success of the television series called Lucifer.
Josie Barnes is however a very strong woman - she knew that the announcement she made on social media of her naming decision would attract very negative comments like a magnet, but nothing could have ever prepared her to receive the horrible threats that included death threats: "I am lucky to be a very strong woman, because these threats to my life are terrible and they really scare me. When I chose this name, I knew people would never like it, but I had absolutely no idea how much people could push themselves towards sending hateful messages. "

As the mother explained to local TV, the name Lucifer was not chosen lightly, since her birth was the result of years and years of suffering and attempts to get pregnant that did not go very well. So the arrival of this child for the woman was almost miraculous - a real light at the end of the tunnel. And if we think about it, the name Lucifer comes from the Latin meaning "light bearer" or "morning star", etymologically having a very positive meaning. But in the Christian tradition it is now associated with the name of Satan before he became an evil, fallen angel.
Josie also explains that she is an atheist and therefore the choice of the name Lucifer has nothing to do with the Christian tradition that she disavows. Many users, however, are angry with the "counter-culture" naming choice of the woman, sure that for because of his name, when her child grows up, he will be targeted and bullied by many of his peers .
What do you think about this? Do you think this mom acted correctly to choose the name she most liked for her baby; or do you think that maybe she should have... thought twice?
