Man discovers he has cancer but decides to get married anyway: they were husband and wife for 4 months
There are stories that make us reflect on how important it is to seize the moment and not miss out on a chance for happiness - especially when you never know when these moments can end. Life is often unfair, as well as being unpredictable, but we must not be discouraged by this fact: living surrounded by the people you love is perhaps the most important thing - together with making your dreams come true. Jenn Carter and Solomon Chau had a happy life: but it was sadly cut short by Solomon's untimely death. The two wasted no time when Chau was diagnosed with incurable liver cancer and decided to get married. Their moving story has gone viral on the internet - in fact, their story has been made into a film.
The love story between Jen and Solomon began like any other story: in the fall of 2007, Solomon was celebrating his 19th birthday at home with friends. Meanwhile, Jenn was in town to visit a friend who lived in the vicinity. Jen and this friend snuck into (gate-crashed) Solomon's birthday party, even though they weren't invited. It was after the party that the two began messaging each other and dating over a period of weeks. Then, one day, Solomon decided to take a bus to Jen's house, despite there being a snowstorm outside.
As you can imagine, from that moment on, the two were never separated.
In the summer of 2014, Solomon asked Jenn to marry him, using a truly romantic and emotional proposal. Jenn obviously said "yes" and the two began planning the details of their wedding, scheduled for the summer of the following year. And this is when the tragic news arrived: doctors diagnosed Solomon with liver cancer, forcing him to undergo emergency surgery. According to the doctors, the operation was a success - so much so that the couple continued with the preparations for their wedding (which was scheduled for August 2015). Unfortunately, in March 2015 Solomon began to suffer from severe stomach pains: the cancer had spread and the doctors told him that he would not survive to the end of summer and, in all likelyhood, he would not even have enough time left to get married on the planned date.
Family and friends launched a fundraising page, to allow the couple to get married immediately, and without wasting any more time. In total, over $ 50,000 dollars was raised and the couple were able to get married in April 2015. The couple spent four months together as husband and wife, before Solomon was passed away (8 months after his diagnosis, on the 17th of August - the day the couple originally planned to get married on).
This is a tragic story that reminds us how every moment of life should be lived to the full and surrounded with the people we love.
