Getting a good job isn't easy, especially since the salary offered is usually much lower than it actually should be, and it's frustrating to keep struggling to survive. Work should make you free, since it is the main tool with which everyone can obtain the means for their livelihoods, but too often, we end up living on the edge, barely able to make ends meet. The cost of living is higher than the wages earned in many countries and so, is not too surprising, to hear about the story of an employee who decided to run away (literally), with a large amount of money that the company he works paid him by mistake.

The news of this event went viral around the world and this is hardly surprising. So what actually happened? In Chile, an employee was paid the staggering sum of € 174,000 euros ($ 178,000 dollars) for a month's work, instead of the usual € 520 euros per month. This was obviously an error on the part of the company. They had paid the man a sum which was greater than 300 times his regular salary in one shot. Once the company became aware of the serious mistake, the employee was immediately contacted and urged to return the money. The worker, whose identity has not been revealed, agreed to return the money the next day. But instead of showing up at the office the next day with the money, he went into hiding.

You got that right: the employee literally ran away with the money, cutting all communications with the company.

The company then received news from the man's lawyers, who informed the company directors that the employee had resigned from the position he had held in the company. In a way, it was the employee who had the the upper hand (and moral high ground, so to speak), since he was being paid ess than the average monthly salary by the company. The company, however, has decided to file a complaint against the man, accusing him of misappropriation of funds. At present, the police have not made an arrest and it is not yet known where the employee is.

We do not know what turn this story will take, but it has certainly made the news: what would you have done in the shoes of this man?
