Elderly man phones a call center 24,000 times: the 71-year-old is arrested by the police
When you get older, it's easier to make mistakes. In some cases, actions are carried out that, unbeknownst to the actor, cause damage to other people or cause temporary problems. But there are also those who are fully aware of what they are doing and, despite this, do not to stop their damaging behavior.
The subject of this story knows something about this: he is a 71-year-old man who was arrested by the police for calling his telephone operator's call center 24,000 times. Let's find out why he behaved in this way:
via BBC
Akitoshi Okamoto is a 71-year-old Japanese man who, not satisfied with the service he got from his telephone company, contacted the call center to complain. On the surface, this is nothing strange - except that this gentleman literally flooded the operators with his calls. In fact, the elderly man did not limit himself to complaining just a few times (because he could not pick up any radio broadcasts), but he got on the phone and made 24,000 calls to the switchboard.
The situation went on for about 2 and a half years, and finally ended up in the hands of the police. The KDDI company, exhausted by the behavior of the 71-year-old who showed no signs of quitting, turned to the police and reported him for criminal obstruction to business. The man had not only complained about alleged irregularities on his line, but had repeatedly insulted the switchboard operators and demanded that they offer him a formal apology.
Not being able to accept all this situation anymore, the company was forced to turn to the authorities to put an end to what had become a real obsession. The elderly man had made 24,000 calls, hampering the company's work and the normal functioning of its commercial activity.
What at first seemed amusing, turned into a nightmare from which the call center operators could not free themselves. Every time they heard the man's voice, they became terrified and didn't know what to say to him.
Perhaps this irate elderly only realized, too late, that he had gone too far when police knocked on his door, but who knows?
