Waiter tells a customer that he lives very far away from his family and his wife is expecting a baby: he gets a $750 tip
Getting a surprise from a loved one is always a wonderful thing. And if the surprise comes from a perfect stranger, then it's even more special.
The young man at the center of this story knows this very well. On an ordinary day and while working his normal shift, he became the "recipient" of an act of altruism from a man he had just met. Read on to find out more:
Ben Millar is a 22-year-old Irishman who was working as a waiter in Houston, Texas when he received an unexpected surprise. During his work shift, he happened to serve a table at which a kindly gentleman was sitting. Between courses, Ben started chatting with the man about his life.
Ben learned that the man had just returned from Ireland where he had been to attend a concert featuring his favorite band. When Ben found out the man was Irish, he told him he was Irish and had family in Ireland that he had not seen for ages.
"I would really love to go back for a weekend, but I don't have the money," Ben told the man. Ben also explained that he had a partner, Taryn Keith - who was eight months pregnant - and she had never met his family in Ireland.
The conversation then ended and Ben returned to his duties. However, when the customer left, Ben was told that there was something at the till for him. Not only had the man paid his food bill, but he'd left a whopping $750 in tip for Ben, along with a note that read, "Hopefully, this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays. Signed, Jeffrey".
Taryn reached out on Facebook to thank the stranger, and wrote:
"My Irish fiancé, Ben, received this tip last night. The customer had just returned from Ireland and made a very kind gesture to encourage us to holifsy there. We will certainly do so when our baby Killian is born so that he can meet his Irish family. I want to share this photo to show everyone that in the world that good things do happen to good people".
We can only agree with Taryn. Sure, not everyone can help out others in this way, but when possible, it's wonderful to do so.
