Sometimes, all we need is to disengage for a bit and take some time for ourselves. However, find a time and place to do this can get complicated and even lead to having a negative experience.

The subject of this story knows something about this: this mother simply wanted to spend some time in peace with her little ones. Unfortunately, this desire led to a rather unpleasant situation for her.

Rachel McCarey is a 39-year-old woman, a mother of two children - one aged 7 and the other just a few months old. Rachel was at a municipal swimming pool and was busy breastfeeding her baby, when a lifeguard approached her and asked her to go to a more secluded, private place to feed her baby.

Rachel was shocked by the lifeguard's request and described the incident as follows: "I am amazed that these things like this can still happen: this is the 21st century! I feel insulted and offended and so should all breastfeeding mothers to be treated like this: in eight years of breastfeeding, I have never been told to go hide myself," Rachel said.

Outraged, Karen demanded to speak to the pool's manager to determine what their so-called "decency" policy was. But she didn't stop there.

In fact, Rachel filed a complaint with the municipality, who replied that they would investigate the incident. Later, she stated: "When I was told that I should move to a less crowded place, like the pool's bathroom, to breastfeed my child, it was as if I was being told I was doing something wrong. It was blatant discrimination. We mothers should be able to breastfeed our children anywhere and at any time: I feed my baby 5 times an hour - which is normal, given his age. Should I lock myself in a bathroom every single time?! I can't believe such archaic beliefs still exist".

The management of the swimming pool tried to justify themselves by claiming that they had no problem with allowing breastfeeding mothers in the common areas, but that, for safety reasons, they preferred the practice be carried out in more "isolated" places.
