A simple method to clean your oven racks ... the "No Sweat" way!
Cleaning an oven can be quite complicated if you do not you do it regularly, and if you let the burnt food, sticky grime, and baked-on grease accumulate over time, it all becomes more difficult to remove. The same goes for the oven racks, on which we place the food to cook, that ends up leaving nasty smears, smells, and stains. Therefore, keeping the oven racks clean is first and foremost a matter of hygiene.
Unfortunately, removing burnt food residue from oven racks may not be so easy, and often just elbow grease is not enough!
This method for cleaning oven racks utilizes laundry detergent powder to clean the racks but liquid dishwasher detergent works well, too!
Here's how to make your oven racks look as good as new! :-)
What you need:
- An old towel
- Laundry detergent or liquid dishwasher detergent (1 scoop)
- A kitchen sponge or an old toothbrush
Lay the old towel on the bottom of the bathtub to protect it. Place the dirty oven racks on the towel, and fill the bathtub with very hot water, enough to fully cover and submerge the oven racks.
If you use laundry detergent powder, mix it first with water in a jar and shake: then pour it all into the bathtub over the oven racks, and for the final touch sprinkle more laundry detergent powder directly onto the oven racks.
If you use liquid dishwater detergent, just pour it directly into the bathtub.
Let the oven racks soak in the water with the detergent for at least six hours. Then start to clean the oven racks by them scrubbing with the sponge or the old toothbrush.
Now, the sticky grease and grime residue can be easily removed and you will see your oven racks gradually start to shine! The final result....brilliantly clean oven racks! :-)
An extra trick: If there are extra tough spots of grease and grime on the oven racks that are difficult to remove, just add a few tablespoons of baking soda to the bath water!
