The all too familiar cliche about the antipathy existing between dogs and cats is an expression which is also used to refer to two people who absolutely do not get along with each other! For example; when two people "fight like cats and dogs"!

Most often the stereotype actually does reflect the reality, but there are also examples of exceptions to this cliche that reveal it to be a rather superficial belief.
