An elderly couple buys land and builds a house inside the base of a mountain
Even if you love the city life you cannot deny that the call of nature at times is irresistible. Carving out some time to spend away from the relentless chaos of the metropolis, is critical to the health of our body and mind.
In some cases, the hectic pace of the city has come to truly exasperate people, who, therefore, decide to make a decisive change in their lives --- to just drop everything and take refuge in the peace of Nature.
Phil Houghton and his wife Barbara found themselves making the same decision --- their desire to find tranquility, to live according to nature's clock had become too strong. But, where did they decide to settle down? Inside of a mountain ...

The place chosen by the couple was the Montezuma Canyon, about 20 minutes from the town of Monticello, Utah.
You can forget primitive dwellings or tiny houses ... The Houghton couple's home is a real and proper house that can accommodate an entire family.
A few days after they had decided to move to a remote place, Phil Houghton bought the slope of a mountain. With a controlled explosion, he created the space for their future home.
It took years to build and finish the house, but in the end what the Houghton's have created is a real love nest with an interior that has been tastefully decorated by his wife Barbara.
According to Phil, a mining expert, the structure of the house is very safe. In fact, it was designed according to seismic standards and is surrounded by a tunnel to be used in case of fire.
Electricity is supplied by solar panels installed on top of the mountain slope and water is collected during the heavy seasonal rains.
In such a desolate place you may think that the two, now in later years, might suffer from loneliness? Not at all --- not far from them lives another family, who, just like them has chosen to live in this wonderful place.
Phil and Barbara have been living in this spectacular place for years and for them, it is a dream come true! In fact, they would not trade their home inside a mountain for anything in the world!
